For many, prayer is a time to pour out our concerns to God. But are we so busy talking that we fail to listen to all the riches he has for us?Joyce Huggett was an ordinary Christian who told God her problems and desires. But then there was a change. Slowly she began to discover that God revealed himself to her when she was quiet before him. A whole new dimension of prayer opened up as she explored channels of hearing God that she had never known before. And in this book she shares her spiritual pilgrimage with us.Always practical, always biblical, Joyce Huggett shows us how we can quiet ourselves and prepare to hear God speak in his multicolored ways. Here is a book for those who want to be introduced to a fresh way of invigorating their walk with God.… (mer)

Joyce Huggett became interested in contemplative prayer, even though it was very different from her own Christian denominational background, and writes in this book about her journey, the methods she used to reach "silence," and ways in which God speaks today.

This is a tough book to describe because it covers so much both about prayer and about Joyce's own life as what I would call a pastor's wife (she lives in England). She's real about her struggles and comes across as humble. I've been wanting to add a few minutes of just a quietness at the end of the Bible studies I've been doing, so I found the timing of this to be very good. I don't expect myself to follow in her footsteps, say, of putting aside an entire room as a prayer room and scheduling an hour a day to devote myself to silence. But a lot of the advice she gives is practical, and she draws heavily from many sources that give anyone interested in studying prayer many options for further study. ( )

Prayer became the warp and woof of my life very early on in my childhood. My father wove the first prayer-threads into the fabric of my experience.
