The stories of Pi and JD -- their sorrows and the connections they make during the early days of email and chat rooms -- is capably rendered, however grossly overwritten. This novel's impact would have doubled if half the text was shed of its long, underwhelming navel-gazing passages. Dialogue had moments of brilliance, weighed down by moments of utter and complete banality. However, Brownrigg shows promise. She tackles subjects like suicide, death, divorce, and disaster with a wise and steady hand. ( )
