Sarah Susanka's Not So Big Solutions For Your Home is a collection of articles from Fine Homebuilding magazine. I am a big fan of it because it talks about practical solutions to a lot of modern real world issues (e.g., dealing with the TV and entering from the garage). Given the format, the articles do not cover a lot of issues (there are only 30 articles), but the topics that are covered are generally covered in more detail than elsewhere. I will admit that the last section, on remodeling, failed to interest me. (

I would say this is in the middle of the pack as far as Susanka's books go. I would love to see more ways of adapting these to apartments, workplaces, and other settings. (

Should be required reading for anyone contemplating a home remodel. She encourages the reader to step back and ask, "Why do I want to remodel? What problems need to be solved?" In response to those answers, she provides several clever ideas that demonstrate good "out of the box" thinking. Ms. Susanka's advice and ideas could save you tens of thousands of dollars - well worth the time and the price of the book. (
