The poetry is new as well as from famous poets. Very enjoyable betime book. ( ) Summary: Collection of 27 poems, songs, rhymes and lullabies, some from traditional sources and some from well-known poets such as William Blake, R.L. Stevenson and Rudyard Kipling. The verses are arranged in three general stages of “bedtime mood”: the coming of night, the stage of falling asleep or reluctance to fall asleep, and finally the stage of sooth and quiet sleep. As Chorao says “the book was arranged to echo the bedtime mood” (Back flap cover). Evaluation: Full colored illustrations accompany this collection of bedtime verses. The illustrations are filled with details from the verses depicting babies, boys and girls, mom and dads, familiar animals and other topics than interest and concern children (Horning, 75). The lullaby “Rock-abye, Baby” is smartly illustrated with a kitty cat instead of a real baby which following Horning’s advise, could be too realistic for toddlers (or their parents) (Horning, 77-78). The verses can be read in order of appearance at bedtime or can also be used with older children to describe the cycle of day and night. The poem “How They Sleep” (32) is particularly appealing to use with PK-2 children in an animal unit. The book has a contents page and an index of first lines. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
