Death Comes for the Fat Man (Dalziel and Pascoe Mysteries) (2007)

Die Krimis von Reginald Hill haben eine große Fangemeinde. Selbst hatte ich bisher noch nie einen gelesen. Vielleicht ist dieser 20. Teil auch nicht der beste für den Start, denn seine Hautfigur, der legendäre Superintendent Andrew Dalziel liegt in diesem Roman im Koma und die Ermittlungen leitet Chief Inspector Peter Pascoe. Es gibt ein Bombenattentat, daran anschließend weitere Anschläge und einen seltsamen Tempelritter-Verschwörungsorden, der dahinter steht. Pascoe muss sich der Antiterroreinheit CAT unterordnen, obwohl er eigentlich viel schneller die richtigen Fäden erkennt.
Ich brauchte ein wenig um in das Buch hineinzukommen. Es ist ein sehr britischer Roman, mit langsam sich entwickelnder Handlung und feinem Humor. Am Ende gibts dann aber sehr überraschende Wendungen. Mir hat das Buch gefallen. Ich würde auch wieder einen Roman aus der Serie lesen, wenn auch nicht aktiv danach suchen. ( )

Pascoe recovers quickly, though, and he is determined to discover who would dare do such a thing to Dalziel…. This very brief description of the plot of Reginald Hill’s "Death Comes for the Fat Man" just scratches the surface of the story; as this long-running series goes on, the reader notices more and more complexities both in terms of the individuals involved and the number of interconnecting threads and story lines. I believe this is the 22nd book out of a total of 24, so I’m reaching the last stages of this really terrific series; it’s definitely necessary to read all of the books in order, but if you’ve made it this far you already know that! I have read this entire series of books and they have evolved over the years to become a more satisfying read with each new book that comes out. Like Peter Robinson, Elizabeth George, Martha Grimes,Charles Todd, anew book is an occasion. ( )

As with most of the Dalziel & Pascoe series, very good indeed. Dalziel is unconscious throughout most of the novel and so takes a back seat... or does he? Will death come for Dalziel and if so will he get a bloody good talking to? Lovely metaphysical mystery within a mystery. ( )

I'm quite fond of all the Dalziel/Pascoe mysteries by Reginald Hill, and one of the things I like best is that Hill seems to come up with a different format, conceit, or structure for each book. I suppose it's a way of keeping boredom at bay when one has a very successful series that readers want to keep on reading. Here, Dalziel, after a bombing, lingers between life and death and Pascoe must investigate the bombing on his own (with a little help from Ellie). One of my Best Books of 2007. ( )
