This book is basically a collection of poems about Christmas. She did a good job at describing the setting of the poem and giving her audience a view of what she feels during this month. Then she goes on with her poems talking about the decorations she sees throughout Christmas season. For instance, in the poem Wreaths she says, "The glossy circles of pine and holly hung on a hundred doors." I believe this would be perfect to read around the month of December in a classroom because I feel like the kids can relate to what Worth and Frasconi are talking about in these poems. ( )

At Christmastime is a beautiful and festive book of poems about Christmas. There are many short and simple poems in the book that all revolve around Christmas like Wreaths, Light String, Winter Dusk, Ornaments, Tinsel, Candy Cane, Santa Claus, etc, These are all things that get me excited for Christmas time. Everyone loves Christmas or they should at least and this is a great book to read during the season. These are all short and simple poems and many kids would enjoy reading them and they would understand them. The author did a great job describing in each poem. The illustrations are also done very well because they are very colorful and they fit to what the poem is talking about. This could be read to any grade in elementary school because I'm sure they all would love to read about Christmas. But, it might be a touchy subject book for kids who don't celebrate Christmas. ( )

At Christmastime is a collection of poems that celebrates the whole Christmas season, from the excitement of early December through New Year's Day and the aftermath of the holiday. When reading the book, the author gives you very descriptive details about the weather, attitudes, clothing, etc. which really helps the reader visualize what is going on in the book. This is a really good read for Christmas time during school. ( )

Valerie Worth captured before and after Christmas perfectly in this book of poetry, “At Christmastime”. Her poems start around “Early December”, all the way to “Spring”. Worth takes us on a journey preparing for Christmas and New Year’s through her poems. Each story goes into detail of exactly what happens during the Christmas season. Frasconi’s illustrations help tell Worth’s story in a very creative way. The illustrations play a huge part in portraying the image of Christmas and getting into the holiday spirit. He has very detailed art work that go along with her detailed poems. The poems do not have a certain style; they do not have a rhyme scheme. This collection of poetry was one I thoroughly enjoyed. The main thing I love about this book is all the different aspects the author covers about this holiday. If a child didn't celebrate christmas he or she would definately bennifit from this book. The illustrations set my mood for this book and got me in the christmas spirit. As a teacher I would try to cover books on all holidays to make sure not to offend the students who don't celebrate that particular holiday. ( )
