Ellison is a young elephant that cannot make his trunk toot. He wishes he could be grown up and learn how to be like all the other elephants. He felt bad about himself. Ellison keeps patient and finally learns to toot! This book would be good to teach students about patience. ( )

Ellison the Elephant struggles with finding his voice through his trunk until he meets a weasel who encourages him to find it. He thought he was an outcast because he could not make a trumpet sound like the other elephants. The weasel and his parents helped him find his own voice and later all the elephants wanted to sound just like Ellison. This book would be great for all young children and the pictures were descriptive with a variety of color. Teachers could teach students that it is okay to be different and have them discuss the background that they came from to demonstrate how cultures vary from one another. ( )

Ellison the Elephant was a lovely book. I thought the content is something that all age groups can relate too and the visual representation of the text was amazing. Ellison the made character felt bad about himself because he was different. His mother and his imaginary friend helped him be comfortable with himself and find his own voice. Once his voice was found he was realized how great it is to be different. Every child wants to fit in and this book is great to explain to children that it is okay to be different. I enjoyed the way the author presented the text. On page 13, when Ellison was walking away further and further, the text got smaller and smaller as he walked further away. The main message of the book is that it is okay to be different and to embrace being yourself. ( )

Unable to make the normal trumpet blast, little Ellison gets teased by the other elephants. With encouragement from his mom-and provocation from his imaginary friend, Weasel-Ellison finds his very own voice. The voice from his "jazz trunk" charms and entertains all withing earshot.

This is the story about Ellison, a young elephant who has not mastered his ability to make his trumpet blast. He felt bad about this because all the other elephants his age could do it. He felt lonely and outcast. So he went off by himself and began a conversation with his imaginary friend, who is a weasel. While they spent time together, Ellison began practicing his trumpet blast sounds, and his friend encouraged him that he could do it! Finally, Ellison made the most beautiful trumpet blast anyone had ever heard. In fact, it sounded like music. No other elephant could make these sounds with their noses, so Ellison went back to show them how talented he was. Everyone admired Ellison for his abilities, and he never felt outcast again.
