I love Crow, she is adventurous, hard working, inquisitive, and caring. I love the relationship she has with Osh and Miss Maggie and I love that Crow realizes that she may have been a part of the problem in the relationship she has with the towns people. I am hoping that someday there will be a second book or a novella where Crow gets to find her brother and they get to have a heartfelt conversation about being children from a leper colony. I love that Osh is so caring and understanding and speaks from his heart when Crow hurts his feelings.
Overall, this was thoroughly enjoyable middle grade novel and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for historical fiction for young readers. ( )
Enjoyable story of a girl growing up on a New England island who had been cast adrift as a baby and tries to find out who she really is. Could have been more exciting, but it's worthwhile. ( )
Crow is a determined and ambitious female character that readers will be able to relate to. As she goes on a journey of self discovery and finding her true identity, Crow learns the value of found family and being confident in who she is. Readers will be able to see that family is more than blood relatives, family can come in many ways, shapes and forms! ( )
I really really enjoyed this book. Before I read this book, I've read Wolf Hollow and Echo Mountain by Lauren Wolk and loved both of them. And as it normally goes, If i find an author I like, I'll read most to all of their books. Out of those three I liked this one the best. It was an interesting plot, fun setting, mysterious....well...mystery and it was more fast -paced than her other novels. Though it is historical fiction, it has the feeling of fantasy too. I reccomend this book to any reader who likes good books! ( )
