Invisible Emmie (Emmie & Friends) (urspr publ 2017; utgåvan 2017)

This is a very fun book. I liked how it is written in 2 different points of view. It does touch on something that most middle school students go through, boys and being picked on. Great book. ( )

A solid addition to the growing catalogue of graphic novel and graphic novel hybrids. The plot is a bit familiar but the details about Emmie and her family are quirky and a lot of fun. The twist ending, which came as a surprise to me was what bumped this up to a 4-star book. Another great book to give kids waiting for new Raina Telgemeier books. ( )

I thought this was a great read because of 2 specific reasons. First, this book pushes readers to think about tough issues like being comfortable with who you are. For example, on page 176 it says, “No pressure to be popular, liked, or sought for advice. I can just be myself. For the first time, I feel kind of FREE!”. This is a reason why I like the book as well as the message of the book. Second, the characters were so believable and well developed that I was so shocked to realize that one of the main characters was made believed/ a figment of one of the other main character’s imagination. For example on page 177, the main character finally explains that the other main character was just made up. I won’t explain or reveal specific names because I definitely think it’s worth reading to learn about the character’s development throughout the book and to discover the world of Invisible Emmie yourself. Set in middle school but a fun read for 4th grade and up. Shifting perspectives and narration with a nice twist. Quiet kids would identify with Emmie. ( )

I’ve been on a graphic novel kick, and have wanted to read this book since I saw it on the Scholastic book fair preview DVD. I finally got my hands on it and it was worth the wait! I absolutely loved the alternating chapters between two characters. This one has also been brought into school to be passed around the Upper Elementary students! ( )
