Hair Like Mine is a fun and easy read following a little girl who doesn't like that her naturally curly hair looks different from the other kids around her. On her quest to find someone with hair like hers, she soon realizes we are all unique and special in our own way.

This book was a great read! This book is a great for children that are trying to learn how to accept their unique and individual differences. This book addresses an African American little girl, who does not understand why her hair is unlike the other kids hair in the classroom. At the end of the book, she finally realizes that she is unique and different , and it is okay to stand out and not be like everyone else! I will most definitely be reading this book to my classroom that is made up of mostly African American little girls. ( )

Hair Like Mine is about a little girl who does not enjoy her beautiful, curly hair. She does not like all the work needed in order to maintain her hair. She is on the hunt to find someone with similar hair like hers, so she does not feel left out. After looking at multiple girls hairs, she realizes that everyone’s hair is different and she should love her own. “Well accept they have a different frame. One of them is tall and the other is small.” ( )

I adore this book! As a teacher of mainly children of color, who have frequently over the past decade asked numerous questions about my “white girl hair”, this book really resonated with me. The characters are all people of color and there are so few books out there that address the same issues for this group. The text explores the many differences between all people as the little girl in the story tries to find someone that has hair that is just like hers. Throughout the book the little girl realizes that although there is nobody quite like her that it is ok, that everyone is different and that is what is beautiful about people. ( )
