"When 14-year-old William Kamkwamba's Malawi village was hit by a drought in 2001, everyone's crops began to fail. His family didn't have enough money for food, let alone school, so William spent his days in the library. He came across a book on windmills and figured out how to build a windmill that could bring electricity to his village. Everyone thought he was crazy but William persevered and managed to create a functioning windmill out of junkyard scraps. Several years later he figured out how to use the windmill for irrigation purposes"--… (mer)

This book is about a 13 year old boy that was thrown out of the school he loves when his family can no longer afford the fees. This didn't stop him because he loved learning so he snuck into the library and learned how to build a windmill to save his village from a famine. This story is based in Malawi. This book should be in your classroom for your students because this shows that even though he got kicked out of school it didn't stop him for learning which is what he loves. ( )

The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind is about a boy names William who after being kicked out of school taught himself about electricity and turbines. William later provides light in his home and later provided water to his village during a drought. I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars because it doesn't relate to math but tells a true story of Williams life. ( )

William Kamkwamba was forced to quit school when a terrible drought struck their village in Africa and dried up his family's crops as well as their source of income but that didn't stop him from wanting to learn. He used a book borrowed from the local library to try and build his own windmill in order to bring electricity to his house and later, save his village from the drought that had plagued them for so long. William's story is one of perseverance and dedication and proves that you can do great things if you apply yourself and pursue your passion and for that it deserves five stars. This is definitely a great addition to any classroom library. ( )

The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind is a true story about a young boy who lives in Africa. William Kamkwamba is a farmer along with his family and in 2001 a drought hits his village. William Loved science, and inside a science book he discovers how to save his village from the drought that is killing most of his people. While reading this book, it reminded me again why I love science and how important it is.The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind deserves five stars, it shows how perseverance and education can make a difference in someones life. It also manifests how important it is to believe in our own ideas. This book is a perfect science content book, not only does it tell a beautiful story but it also talks about science concepts like magnets and their positive and negative pulls. All through the book it talks about science concepts in such detail that a child could comprehend. ( )

This book is about a young African boy that is fascinated with learning. Although the young boy comes from a struggling background, he uses the little resources he has to build a windmill. I rate this book 5 stars because it is inspiring and culturally responsive. This book is a good read because it teaches the reader to never give up regardless of any underlying circumstances, to belive in yourself, and to not let others hold you back. This book was very powerful, and can teach a good life lesson to students. ( )
