Wildflower drawings by Minnesota author and illustrator Juanita Marotta. Author is Minnesota author. In undertaking the ambitious construction project and subsequently her book, Helen White demonstrates a clear understanding that so much of this country's real history occurred, not just in the well-documents homes of our most famous citizens, but also in the houses of average folk who in their everyday lives contributed so much to the countrys growth. Helen has succeeded in actually rescuing a small derelict building, thereby demonstrating powerfully the feasibility and the value of that effort. So also does she provide in her book readable, non-pedantic advice and encouragement to those would-be restorationists. Good reading for those who enjoy old buildings, and a strong argument for the preservation of unpretentious, yet no less significant, examples of small workers houses. Architect William W. Scott has restored three historic houses on the National Register in the Angels Hill Historic District, Taylors Falls, Minnesota. A Small Yellow House is a delight, full of information and easy reading. It is important to preserve and appreciate the buildings of the common family. This book will be a great help. The finished products, both house and book, were well worth the effort. Architect Maurice Stenerson has designed plans for the restoration of numerous buildings in the St. Croix Valley of Minnesota and Wisconsin. - Cover.… (mer)
