This debut novel from Logan started off well but lost credibility soon after. And though I kept on reading, I found the characters annoying and so many holes in the plot that it made the story frustrating. I had already guessed much of how it would finish, so no surprises there. ( )

This started off as your typical mystery, a doting father & his young son see mom while they're out & about and she's not where she said she was. There's confrontation and a crazy tale starts to unfold with stolen identities, affairs, missing persons, murder framing etc... It was written well so it was a good story, but not anything I hadn't read before in some configuration or other. Until near the end when things got interesting, like really interesting, like what-the-heck-did-I-just-read-interesting. It was an end I didn't see coming, I thought it was pretty cut & dried, solved it earlier and nodded with my knowing cockiness and basically was just finishing to finish it. I was very, very wrong and that gave what was a pretty okay book an extra star, that's what brought it home & turned it on it's ear. This is a good one, this one is a surprise and that's exciting in an overcrowded genre. ( )

Clearly I'm in the minority at this point - the book was just published a day or two ago - but I had to stop reading at about the halfway mark.

The premise was great! Husband and young son spot mommy out at a hotel with another man, a confrontation, and then some weird things start happening and his life begins to unravel.

Unfortunately, the execution completely failed for me. Joe, the husband, can't seem to use logic and observation well enough to fight his way out of a paper bag. The author lays out so many clues about what's going on but Joe misses everything - even when he's practically hit in the face with information.

I found Joe's behavior and lack of common sense maddening and the story, in general, too predictable to continue with. I think the author counted on readers not caring or completely missing huge holes in logic or that we'd forget major events - like a bracelet gone missing - and then be surprised later when they come back as part of the evil plan.

Many other people are enjoying LIES but it wasn't my cup of tea.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review the book. ( )

I don't know why I keep falling for the phrase gripping new psychological thriller. Rarely is it actually gripping. It's a sad day when my favorite character is the small child in the story. None of the characters were likeable which I suppose was part of the plot point since we don't know who to trust. The twist was actually surprising so I'll give the book credit for that but overall, snoozetown. The book built up and built up and became more and more predictable, then surprised me, then back to predictable town. I'd love a psych thriller that is actually gripping. This one missed the mark.

My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early copy. ( )

So honestly this book was getting a bit slow and tedious and very repetitive. But wow, that ending completely made up for it all. I actually had suspicions at one point regarding the ending, but quickly decided that wasn’t how it would go based on everything that was being thrown in the other direction. Yeah that was totally a surprise ending. ( )
