In 1973 Bernhard Leitner published the very first documentation of the house that the philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein had built for his sister in Vienna between 1926 and 1928. Leitner, who spearheaded the international protest to save the Wittgenstein House from demolition in 1971, reveals the uniqueness of this architecture. At first Wittgenstein collaborated with Paul Engelmann, a disciple of Adolf Loos, but the finished work with its entirely new aesthetics is Wittgenstein's, from his conception of architectural space to the smallest detail of a joint or a door handle. Now the author offers an extended reading of Wittgenstein's architectural language, based on new insights. Leitner argues that it must be looked at, understood, and appreciated as an architectural-artistic achievement. Thus the philosopher's building with its concise and complex vocabulary becomes a lesson in seeing. Inga biblioteksbeskrivningar kunde hittas. |
