This was an easy, delightful read from two very personable men. They have done a number of interesting things and it was fun to read about their journey and what they've learned. ( )

After years of watching Property Brothers, I shouldn’t have been surprised that the Scotts penned a saccharine story of growing up in the wilds of Canada in the bosom of a loving family and depicting their everyday lives as just two Canadian brothers who got lucky in home renovation & construction, which naturally extended to first Canadian, then America, television. I’m surprised, and more than a bit ashamed, that I actually read it.

Each brother writes a chapter, with the other making snarky comments in cursive text. Anyone who follows the Scotts know about their upbringing in Alberta, as well as their transition to Las Vegas, so the more interesting chapters feature their intimate relationships. Without ever mentioning his ex-wife’s name (a classy move, IMO), Jonathan describes the dissolution of his two-year marriage, claiming he mourned the breakup longer than the marriage lasted. He proclaimed his love for another woman and devoted his dedication to her, but their relationship ended after publication. Drew’s relationship with his girlfriend (now wife) Linda has its own chapter, although the book was published well before the wedding. Their parents and older brother JD are frequently mentioned throughout the book, and their depiction of a warm, loving family seems authentic. They also describe the behind-the-scenes rigors of their shows, such as how homeowners are selected, common misconceptions and problems, and hiring contractors at each location, rather than funding a traveling construction crew.

While the brothers appear to be revealing secrets, they’re basically just rehashing past interviews and TV specials, and the book is clearly aimed at satisfying fan interest. I’m glad I chose to check this one out from the library via the Libby app. ( )

If you like the shows, this is a must read. Very personal and a great insight into the Scott brothers being as kind in real life as they appear on TV. ( )
