Dangerous Jane (utgåvan 2017)

Dangerous Jane is a biography about Jane Addams. It discusses her strong desire to help people. She went against gender norms of her time and fought for people who needed help. She fought against World War I, and always took care of people no matter where they were from.
This book starts talking about Jane's childhood and how she handled her adult life instead of getting married. She traveled the world and saw poor, hungry people everywhere. She knew she needed to help. Because her quest for helping everybody came at the best time, or worse depending on your perspective, she had many people who could not agree. She was called a traitor for helping people that were not American during the war.
This book tells the story of a brave woman who fought for what she believed. The reading level is around fifth grade, but it is written very eloquently. It almost sounds like a song or poetry. I enjoy the tone of this book because it is very light. It almost reminds me of sunshine and a gentle breeze. It is a great message to send to children: Be true to your values and Women are not to be underestimated. ( )

I decided to give this book the full 5 stars because I absolutely adore Jane. I think everything she was, and everything she stood for is absolutely amazing. She did not let ANYTHING get in her way. Although she was lucky enough to be born into a wealthy family, she still experienced a lot of hardships. Losing her mother and having to live through World War 1 must have been so hard on her. I think she is an inspiration and shows us how much empathy we should all have. She loved everyone and everyone was equal in her eyes, she wanted everyone to have a home and a good meal at night. Jane was such a good person, I hope I can be as cool as her. ( )

Jane Addams lost her mother at a young age. Then she got a disease that made her spine and legs curved the wrong way. These hardships made her empathetic to others in need. She spent her life helping others. She started a home for people to stay and get any help they needed, called Hull House. When the war ended she worked tirelessly for peace and even started the Women's Peace Party and led the International Congress of Women. This book made me so happy because she was such a wonderful person. She was always thinking about others and trying to do anything that could help and make someone else life easier. She was extremely caring and made a huge impact on the world. She fought for not only Women's Rights but also for African American's Rights. Some people will describe certain animals as their "Spirit Animal" and reading about Addams and the work she did makes me think of her as my Spirit Human. I see a Spirit Animal as a general vibe you inspire to have and Addams has a sense of caring that I aspire to have as well. I think stories like this give readers a person to aspire too which can really help their learning and outlooks on life. ( )

Jane Addams was known as the mother of social work and was known for her part in being a leader in women's suffrage and world peace. This book had wonderful illustrations that were both beautiful but still set the tone for the story. The book tells of when Jane opened the Hull House and provided many services for her immigrant neighbors. The author goes on to tell about when World War I broke out and Jane was determined to make a difference for people all over the world. This book was pretty easy to understand and read, and when I read it to my nieces they were very intrigued throughout the whole storybook. ( )

I did not know who Jane Addams was prior to reading this book. I felt that this book was written through her perspective. This allowed the readers to become attached to Jane and want to root for her victory. Jane was described as selfless, kind, and willing to help anyone who needed help. It did not matter to Jane if you were Polish, French, poor, or male. It was clever for the author to name the book Dangerous Jane because how in the world could someone so kind become dangerous? It highlighted the historical atmosphere and prejudices the countries felt towards one another. The end of the book envelopes the world together, creating the sense of world peace that Jane wanted to achieve. ( )
