Technically this title belongs on the Children's shelf. But I think it's a bona fide crossover tale that, while masquerading as another picture book, holds wisdom for all ages. What would happen if money grew on trees? ( )

29 months - not our most favorite story by this author/illustrator duo. The illustrations were as always beautiful and the dogs and cats reminded us of our past and present friends. O is a bit young to understand the story she asked me what money was, oh to be two again. So more than likely this story will spark some interesting discussions as she gets older. ( )

Who hasn't been asked, "Do you think money grows on trees?" In this story, a kindly older lady has a tree that does just that. A strange tree grows in her field and soon it gets even stranger as money starts to hang where the leaves should be. People start coming around and they all want some of the bills dangling from the branches. Night and day, every hour there is a constant stream of people mingling around the tree. However, through it all, Miss McGillicuddy goes about her business...doing her daily chores and paying little attention to all the commotion. Finally, as winter arrives, she has the tree chopped down to provide firewood for the cold, snowy days and nights. This is a fine story with nice illustrations. The ending is a surprise but this provides a good opportunity for stopping short of the end and allowing student writers to compose their own ending.
