They also veer into territory away from the romantic: social justice, identity, belonging. I particularly enjoyed the drawings that went with some of the poems -- same as in Kaur's books, those visual touches added so much to the rawness of the words alongside them. This is the kind of book you can leave out on your bedside table and pick up, over and over again. At first I was not sure I was the right audience, as the two poems with tampons were not my thing, nor experiencing the same things as the author who is a lesbian. As I carried on, I fell in love with it as it is clear the author suffers from some of the same emotional and mental health issues that either plagued me as a younger woman or I continue to struggle with. I loved the format, giant lettering filling the entire page sometimes with only 6 or 7 words. Very quotable. I recommend this highly.
