Nothing is perfect and we all go through hardships. This book promotes strong family values. One small problem led to a chain of events. From one small spill on the table to a giant boulder in the breakfast room. At the end they didn't need any of the materialistic items except for each other. The book is a good depiction of cause and effect. If this happens this will occur. In the book the milk seeped through a crack in the floor, dripped down to the workshop below onto a tray that tipped and flipped and switch and so on. This book teaches us to be grateful for what we have. ( )

It's a wordless book, and you have to look closely at the pictures to gather the storyline. Usually I thoroughly enjoy this kind of exercise. This one left me feeling cheated.

David Macaulay's circumstances (in [Shortcut]) are improbable; Geisert's are painfully stupid. None of the chain of events made enough sense, especially to children who wouldn't even be able to identify what the items involved are. As an adult, I had a hard time with it. And the pig family are not appealing. And the utter destruction should have been traumatic, but the pigs remain calm and smiling all the way to the end. Not impressed.

Oops by Arthur Geisert is about how one accident, spilled milk at a breakfast table, caused the pig family's whole house to get destroyed. There was a chain of events--one thing led to another which led to another--until a telephone wire snapped and caused a giant boulder to fall right on the pig family's house! No pigs were harmed in the making or depection of this book, thankfully.
This book could be good to use for a lesson about how important family should be to students. Even though spilled milk caused this fmaily to lose their whole house, at least they still have each other.
Another lesson this book teaches is that accidents happen. They're inevitable. This book can be used to teach that lesson more in the younger grades, like kindergarten and first grade.

This book relates heavily to cause and effect. In this story, we see a family of pig's house be destroyed by a snapped rope, causing their house to fall off a ledge. The family of pigs sit in the rubble and wonder what to do with what is left of their house. This book could relate to any child going through a phase of devastation or tragedy. The pigs return to each other in the end, reuniting as a family to ensure one another that it will be okay. ( )

This book is appropriate for all grades, Students can verbally tell the story by what is going on in the illustrations. The story takes place in the pigs house, and there is spilled milk. The spilled milk falls between the cracks and cause problems after problems. There is an Oops in every page! Good book to demonstrate cause and effect and chain of events. ( )
