Richard Friedman analyzed the Old Testament and discovered a single story that, over the centuries, had been split up and spliced with other stories, poetry, etc. The story is hidden in Genesis through Kings, or from Creation to Solomon. In this book, he has separated out what he considers to be the original work, and provided the reasoning behind his argument.
Interesting reading, and Friedman's documentation and scholarship seem sound. He makes a good case. (
