Storm Elliot and Corporal Sean Cameron, survivors of a global catastrophe they know is far from over, have an urgent mission. They must fly into Sydney using powered paragliders to avoid the murderous government patrols on the ground to warn the city of the peril imminent it faces. An ancient nemesis is hurtling toward the planet. Survival means moving inland, away from the coast. However, the city is a fortress under a brutal lockdown. They are not the only visitors to make it through the containment wall. A brilliant but ruthless scientist is an unwelcome passenger aboard an American nuclear submarine about to arrive in the harbor. A bizarre experiment is about to begin. One calculated to take advantage of the solar system-wide disaster that is only weeks away from re-visiting Earth. Storm will face a nemesis almost as terrifying as anything the universe can throw his way. Praise from Amazon reviewers This book has some serious suspense... Great apocalyptic read!! Very descriptive text and suspenseful... So many elements of truth that it is terrifying to think of the possibility... The characters are very endearing. I liked them from the get-go and they really got me invested in the story. May Day is Book II of The Erelong Trilogy. Author's Notes Way back in 2015, I had no idea how prescient the orange cover for Jubilee Year and indeed the book's contents would turn out to be. It isn't easy to forget the widespread bushfires in Australia. That time we now call the Black Summer of 2019-2020. It isn't easy to forget that orange sky! May Day, the second book in the series, also hit the mark with what really is a tried and true trope in SF. That of the 'fortress city'. The book was published several years before 2021. Now Sydney has been locked down twice already. Life imitates art. If you enjoy intrigue, a grand conspiracy, and a wild ride, then these books are for you. Book III in the trilogy is under development and is scheduled for publication in late 2021-early 2022.… (mer)

Set in a dystopian future in Australia, this book seemed oddly prescient of the fires that were raging there as I read it. Not having read the first book in the series (although the author did kindly send it to me as well), I was a bit lost as to what was happening and it took a while to get the story going. I did enjoy the main characters and was rooting for them, frustrated like them with the people who wouldn't listen to their message. The communist philosophy did get to be a bit much for me and I started to tune it out. I did enjoy reading the inventive science of the cataclysmic event and its aftermath. The book just wasn't for me. I received a free copy of the book through Library Thing in return for this review. ( )
