Her father takes her through all the different people in her family that she is named after telling her what great character traits they have in common. When she asks where she got her first name from he tells her that it is all her own for her to make her own story with. This is a great book for talking about the significance of a name. Primary; Fiction; This is a sweet story about a little girl with a long name. She doesn't like it because it never fits, but when her father explains the sake of each part of her name, she learns to love all the names that make her who she it, but Alma, her first name, is her story to tell and her name to create. This a great story for all children and a great reminder to be proud of who we are and where we come from. ( )

This story is sweet at it tells about this little girls name and why her father chose the names for her because it is so long. As he describes the reasoning for the names, she begins to understand and grow into them but realizes the name Alama is picked just for her to make her own story. I would use this in the classroom to represent self identity and coming to know who you are and being confident in that. ( )

I love how alma wanted to explore her roots. It reminds me of myself when I was younger always asking my Tata for answers. And always asking my mom about my name too.

This book carries a strong message of family heritage and also self-esteem. The main character is a little girl named Alma, who at first does not like her name because it is too long. She tells her Dad this, so he sits her down and tells her where each part of her name came from. After learning all of this, she loves her name! I think this book would be great for kids! ( )
