The concluding volume in the story of Yaichi, his daughter Kana, and how their meeting Mike Flanagan--Yaichi's brother-in-law--changes their lives and their perceptions of acceptance of homosexuality in their contemporary Japanese culture. As Mike continues his journey of discovery concerning Ryoji's past, Yaichi gradually comes to understand that being gay is just another way of being human. And that, in many ways, remains a radical concept in Japan even today. In the meantime, the bond between Mike and young Kana grows ever stronger, and yet he is going to have to return to Canada soon--a fact that fills them both with impending heartbreak. But not before more than a few revelations come to light.… (mer)

In this second volume of My Brother's Husband, the story of Yaichi, Kana, and their visit from Yaichi's brother-in-law, Mike continues. Mike continues to discover and connect with Ryoki's past with the help of Yaichi, Kana and Natsuki. Yaichi comes to the realization that being gay is just another way of living, that there's nothing wrong with it, and that he wants Kana to feel safe if she were to fall in love with a woman. In the meantime, Mike and Kana's bond grows stronger, even with the heartbreak of Mike going back to Canada on the horizon.

Just like the first volume, this novel keeps up on the same battle Yaichi had in the first: just how can he show his support? He was never outright against it when his brother came out, but he also never really addressed/supported it either. He kind of battles with what he did through the story and how he's going to change that now and for the future.

Kana is still just as bubbly as in the first one and still oh so excited to introduce everyone to her Canadian Uncle. How she is learning about the world is super cute and Yaichi does a wonderful job at parenting her. He never makes her feel dumb for not understanding something and will try and explain it in a way that will help her understand.

I'm sad to see the story end, but it did wrap up in a good way. In my mind I'm picturing Yaichi and Kana going and visiting Mike in Canada in a few years and running around there together. It leaves you with a hope for the future. ( )

I stand with my first opinion: it read like a 'How To' for Westerners.

That didn't lessen my enjoyment. The unrealistic romantic in me hoped there would be a new romance but at he same time I'm glad there was not.

I don't know. I love found families but I'm a bit bummed that I was left with questions een if I think that was intentionally done. ( )

Yaichi's character development continues and Mike does some touristy stuff. Mike meets a closeted high-school buddy of Ryoji's.

Not quite up to the standard of Volume 1. The layout was less pleasing somehow. And definitely more of a MESSAGE book. ( )

Loved it. It'll probs make you want to cry. As, or better than, as the first volume. ( )

This volume covers the second half of Mike's trip to Japan to meet his husband's family. Yaichi continues to work through his unconscious homophobia and finally directly addresses it with other people. And it continues to be so sweet and wonderful. Mike's relationship with Kana is just so pure and seeing a growing camaraderie between Mike and Yaichi is so heart-warming. Just like with the first volume, I simply can't recommend this manga enough. ( )
