Indy Zimmerman has a new stalker who won't leave her alone, no matter what she says to him. Never mind the fact that he's one of the most popular guys at school--she's positive Bryant Bailey is only trying to appease his own conscience after pretty much destroying her life. But when Bryant doesn't back down and insists on having some sort of bizarre friendship with her, his magic works, and her walls slowly start to crumble. He's not her type. She's never been into guys like Bryant, but then again, she's never really known anyone quite as stubborn, or caring, or who can get her to confess stuff she wouldn't even tell her best friend.… (mer)

rating: 1.25, 1.5 maybe? ehhhh

FULL DISCLOSURE: i totally read the wattpad version first. i read the wattpad version, watched the movie, and then read the published version on kindle unlimited.

god this cinderella telling is............................something. having read it twice, i feel like i should have a lot to say, but mostly im just tired and bored. the pacing is just horrible - one scene takes up like four chapters - and the weird miscommunication love triangle thing made my eyes roll back into my head

bryant is annoyingly philosophical and has no sense of boundaries, maxton isnt there for a solid 50% of the story despite being a "major character", and indy is the least consistent in how she thinks and feels about her situation and other people, not to mention has a severe case of not like other girls syndrome

i think it's important and interesting to discuss abuse when making cinderella retellings, just oh god not like this. it doesn't even really come up until 68% of the way through the book, and then its mostly brushed over for romance stuff, house descriptions, and weirdly gendered things, like how much filling someone puts in a sandwich?????????????????

just watch the movie. it's not great either, but it's better than the book, the pacing is less atrocious, maxton is way more likable and believable, and they significantly cut down on bryants philosophical talks ( )

Cindy lost her mother in a car accident that had changed her life forever. Her dad past away at a young age that had left her with her aunt and uncle who were her godparents. But they were never there for her when she needed them instead they ordered her around like a maid. Cindy has two cousins who are really popular at school. But they have always had a crush on Bryant -the most popular boy in School. When Bryant had on accident ran over Cindy's cat which was her last memory of her mother. Bryant really wanted to make it up to Cindy because he felt so bad until he started everything Cindy was doing for her Aunt and Uncle that were not right.Bryant started to take Cindy under his Wing until they could get her in a better home then what she was living in. Cindy then started to notice how Bryant cared and the intense Chemistry between them.
It was a good book but it felt really rushed. In the beginning of the book Bryant came of out nowhere and had kept on apologizing to Cindy for no apparent reason until you got through half of the chapter saying he ran over her cat. Then when Cindy got home she would say the craziest things that no child would ever say like " I am so sorry was it hard to clean the floor " in a sad voice. It is there house they should be cleaning it not her. Cindy never found her own voice until the end which in my opinion drove me nuts. When Cindy got put into Bryant's home it got really weird in my opinion with being so gentle and then loud. I never understood the book fully. ( )
