Johnny and Elvis are brothers who don't like to share ANYTHING. Absolutely NOTHING! One day they will get a mysterious box and in it an unusual cat. One cat for two brothers? A big rumble is about to happen! But this is not ANY cat...A magical picture book with Edward Gorey-inspired illustrations where two selfish brothers will decide to share? or lose it all. What would you choose? What will children learn from this book? Children often get feisty at the fear of losing possession over an item they cherish. Teaching sharing is always a challenge especially in the case of siblings. This children's book encourages kids to be sensitive and understand sharing as an act of spreading happiness. After all, there is no delight in owning anything that remains unshared! BOOK 5 from the quirky series MY CRAZY STORIES - Children's book Age 3-8. Read also Book 6: 'How I Made a Friend' on making meaningful friendships. What makes My Crazy Stories series quite special is that it focuses on kids' character building by encouraging young readers to develop a deeper awareness of themselves and cultivate emotional confidence as they grow up. Enjoy reading!… (mer)

I received a Mobi.file of this book a while back from the author through a giveaway he had on LibraryThing a while back, and the following is my honest opinion.
Parents know how children can be, especially if two boys are involved, can be become a handful to say the least if the pair insist on not sharing a single thing. Elvis and Johnny are such a pair of brothers, with each of them claiming that something is theirs and not the other ones. The two got so bad regarding this that Elvis painted his side of the bedroom they had been forced to share green with Johnny painting his side blue.
So, naturally when the pair found a box at their front door after someone knock on it, each one saying that the box was theirs; that was until a blue cat jumped out causing Johnny to proclaim the cat is his. In a short while the blue cat disappeared, and each one blamed the other for the disappearance; and in its place a green cat was now there, causing Elvis to proclaim the cat is his. Then, suddenly, Elvis felt sorry for his brother and offered to share the cat. This sharing became contagious as they soon began sharing everything else, and ultimately painted their bedroom a single color they’d agreed on; when the cat saw this it disappeared, only to reappear in a similar box where there were two sisters.
The life lesson of sharing is a difficult one for parents to communicate to their children, especially if there’s a pair of siblings; which is where this delightful, well-illustrated book comes in with its subliminal message of sharing. Life lessons can’t be forced upon children, and either can’t children be talked down to regarding them; and both could easily result with the children ignoring both attempts.
For wanting to help parents communicate the important life lesson of sharing to their children, I’m happy to the author/illustrator of this book, Daniel Georges, the 5 STARS he’s gotten from this reviewer. ( )

Wonderfully illustrated, ‘This Cat is Mine’ touches on the common challenges that many young children, young friends and siblings face. Daniel Georges’ book introduces the concepts of compassion, co-operation, compromise and last but not least… sharing!

‘This Cat is Mine’ is a fun, cute and amusing story with a hint of whimsy and is just the right length to keep my kids engaged while still allowing us the opportunity to discuss and explore the book’s themes afterwards. Whilst I understood the message that the book’s ending was trying to convey, it was a bit harder for my younger children to grasp and they were left a bit confused with how things ended for Johnny and Elvis and their mysterious gift

Received eBook through Library Thing for review. ( )

This Cat is Mine! is a story for junior readers or for reading aloud. It demonstrates the benefits of sharing between siblings with an element of magic to highlight their issues. Some wording may be a little advanced for the target age group but on the whole it is an engaging story with strong moral. ( )

Cute little book!

'THIS CAT IS MINE' is a fun little book for kids. The book is very well illustrated, has a nice story line to keep kids engaged and to help siblings inculcate values such as sharing. It is an amusing story of how a magical circumstance leads them to eventually co-operate and also consider and care for each other.
Recommended. ( )
