( ![]() I was hesitant to read this at first because the premise sounded overblown and maybe a little cheesy. It kept coming up on popular reads - which tends to be a bit of a hit or miss thing for me. But I do love historical fiction and books/stories about bands, so it probably shouldn't have surprised me that this book was so enjoyable. The author was able to set the scenes and story in such a believable way that I had to remind myself not to google to try to find an image of a moment or person mentioned in the book like I tend to do with non fiction books. Maybe it's not great literature, but it was a great read. An unusual book, written in play-like dialog recounting interviews done with band members and friends of an 'it' girl from the 1970's music scene. There's a fair bit of good humor throughout in the character driven narrative. if you're a music lover, the book is faithful to that aesthetic. Daisy is a difficult character to like and, as many of the reviews suggest, it's hard to get behind her with all the bad choices she makes. But the arc of the story is pretty interesting. A good guilty pleasure read. I DNF'd at 45%. I didn't like Daisy AT ALL, and I realized that listening to the rest of the book would be a colossal waste of my time. Maybe her massive drug use was "what was done" at the time, but it's not my cup of tea. https://www.instagram.com/p/CNGLMjFhckA/ Taylor Jenkins Reid - Daisy Jones & The Six: For about half the book, I had a strong “why should I care?” feeling. But Reid’s writing pulled me into the story in the second half. #cursorybookreviews #cursoryreviews inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
"Daisy is a girl coming of age in L.A. in the late sixties, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go-Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it's the rock and roll she loves most. By the time she's twenty, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things. Another band getting noticed is The Six, led by the brooding Billy Dunne. On the eve of their first tour, his girlfriend Camila finds out she's pregnant, and with the pressure of impending fatherhood and fame, Billy goes a little wild on the road. Daisy and Billy cross paths when a producer realizes the key to supercharged success is to put the two together. What happens next will become the stuff of legend. The making of that legend is chronicled in this riveting and unforgettable novel, written as an oral history of one of the biggest bands of the seventies. Taylor Jenkins Reid is a talented writer who takes her work to a new level with Daisy Jones & The Six, brilliantly capturing a place and time in an utterly distinctive voice"-- Inga biblioteksbeskrivningar kunde hittas. |
