Když bylo Kate 18 let, seznámila se s velikou hvězdou amerického fotbalu Tomem Harperem. Byla z toho velká láska, že dokonce dívka kvůli mladíkovi opustila školu i rodiče, kteří se jí zřekli.
Tomovo zranění kolena zničilo nejen jeho slibnou kariéru, ale také společný život s Kate. Nemůže se smířit s tím, že ho tým již nepotřebuje a v návalu zlosti vystřelí na trenéra a mine, ale do své hlavy se trefí bez váhání. Z Toma se stává živá mrtvola, do toho Kate zjistí, že čeká dítě, na vše zůstává sama. Opouští práci modelky, stěhuje se se synem na venkov, začíná psát knihu, která má po svém vydání veliký úspěch.

Kate ale ze svého úkrytu nevychází, nestojí o popularitu, pouze navštěvuje Toma v sanatoriu. Situace se změní, když se rozhodne napsat knihu z rugbyového prostředí, rozjede propagační turné. Jejím producentem je Nick Watermann, časem se do sebe zamilují, ale mladá žena pociťuje povinnost k Tomovi.

Nick se snaží jí odpoutat od minulosti, osud jí nabízí úplně novou šanci.

Predictable story of love, loss, and finding yourself. Kate is a young, beautiful w0man who becomes a recluse after her husband, a famous football star, shoots himself and becomes permanently disabled. She's also pregnant and makes the decision to hide her son and herself away from the world to avoid dealing with the aftermath of her husband's tragedy. Then, she meets Nick (Mr. Wonderful and rich) who steals her heart and helps her reclaim her life as a best-selling author. Although the characters are endearing, nothing else in this book speaks of real life. It's a nice fairy tale about a woman who makes bad choices over and over again, then is recused from herself by a knight in shining armor who frankly is just too good to be true. ( )

I needed to read a book with a football player character for a recent challenge. I stopped by the library and picked up Season of Passion by Danielle Steel. The book tells the story of Kate, only eighteen when she meets Tom Harper, one of America's biggest pro-football stars. They share an idyllic and glamorous first love. But the bullet that suddenly ends Tom's career also ends their life together. A failed suicide attempt will leave him mentally and physically disabled forever and Kate will be left alone and pregnant with their son. Soon she will have another chance at love but what does this mean for Tom?

I'm not a huge romance fan but this was a fast easy read that fulfilled my challenge. It was one of Danielle Steel's early books but it's held up pretty well. If you are a fan of romance books I'm sure you'll like this one. ( )

Kate while being a model was introduced to Tom and they hit it off and she fell in love with him. He was able to get her to travel to see him play football across the US.
They had the perfect life but he was too old to continue. He suffers a tragedy and ends up in a place where his brain injury is considered. With his football medical insurance he will be taken care of for years.
Her parents and his parents had written them both off. With his brain injury he is like a 7 year old boy. She was pregnant and his father would never realize he had a son.
She decided to write Tom's story and that's where she meets the TV produced Nick Waterman. He knows she is keeping a secret and he wants her to tell him herself.
Love all the travel and the places described along the way. She is on tour but Nick and her son now her secret..
She loves her time in NY promoting the book and meets a man that has similar situations as she and they share a dinner.

Again--not a romance fan (although long ago when i was a pre-teen i was in the
Danielle Steel fan club for a year) This and "The Promise" are the only books i kept, i guess i'm still a sap for these two stories--the one about how love for one person can still remain even after tragedy and memory loss and the other about how you can find love again. Ahhhhhh.... ( )
