They handle fires that were started by dragons, getting in and out before being discovered for what they really are…dragons. Abigail Owen has come up with a fresh, original take on shapeshifting dragons. I do love my dragons, so I am super excited to be reading the series and meeting each and every one. Finn is in charge of training. He is The Boss. These dragons absorb fire. Fire is a living, breathing thing, but they are stronger. Heading out to fight a fire, Finn rescues Delaney, picking her up and carrying her out of the burning barn…away from the fire that she started. The attraction was immediate and mutual, but Finn fought it, tooth and nail. He had lost his wife, Phoebe, when the mating process killed her. He had been so sure that she was the one, but he had been wrong. He wouldn’t be responsible for making another mistake and taking another life. Delaney had moved from Vermont to get away from the fires, but they followed her to California. She felt the need to tell him. Tell him about the ‘blackouts, spontaneous fires and her stalker.’ Delaney and Finn both had losses that made them build walls, never wanting to suffer like that again. But, you know that saying, the heart wants what the heart wants…and it will not be denied. Finn fights the attraction, but not Delaney. She actively pursues him, not taking no for an answer. I love her strong, feisty personality. Afraid, yes, but that doesn’t stop her from pursuing happiness. Hmmm…what’s that? I think I see another romance blooming, but I’m anticipating learning more about that later. I look forward to finding out if I am correct in that assumption. Delaney does need protecting and Finn doesn’t have a problem with that. He explains to her that they are Enforcers, like our special forces and they would take care of her stalker. They don’t realize it, but there is something very special about Delaney. Sera is her best friend and her boss. She is exactly what you would want in a friend. Open, honest, eager to help, not turning away in times of trouble. The characters are deep and well developed, sexy and strong, all with their own little quirks in their personalities, making them very interesting. The world is wild, magical, and I loved visiting it. I love visualizing them flying, soaring through the air, absorbing the fire into their bodies, and the battles… I loved this unputdownable, exhiliarating, exciting, breathtaking romance filled with hot and sexy firefighting dragons and the women who love them. With plenty of action and a nice pace, THE BOSS was a pleasant read.
A few things stuck out to me when I was done reading THE BOSS. I really enjoyed the authors take on the dragon shifters. I really enjoyed the job they perform and the way they work together. There was plenty of action in THE BOSS between the firefights and fighting the bad guys. The secondary characters brought a lot to the table and I want to know more about them.
A few things I didn't love. We were kinda thrown into things without a whole lot of background given. I would have liked to know more about the dragons and even Delaney. The romance between Delaney and Finn started off pretty fast, but I didn't necessarily FEEL their connection as fiercely as it was explained.
I would read more in this world and I wouldn't mind seeing the other dragons find their mates.
