Clarabella and her animal friends all start the day brushing their teeth, but as her friends have play time, lunch time, and tumble time, Clarabella a still brushing all her crocodile teeth. When she is ready to play, it’s time to get ready for bed, but tomorrow might be different thanks to a surprise gift from her friends. Geared towards a preschool and kindergarten audience with simple text, predictable patterns, expressive font printed in various designs, and bright pastel illustrations. Perfect for a routine read aloud or to supplement a unit focused on personal hygiene. ( )

This book clearly gets the point across that brushing your teeth is important. The children who read this book will learn how important it is to brush their teeth and be very happy that they do not have as many teeth to brush as Clarabella.

After all of the animals brush their teeth in the morning they are free to play all day! All the animals, that is, except for Clarabella the crocodile. She has SO many teeth! By the time she is ready to play with her friends, the other animals are ready to brush their teeth again before bed! Will Clarabella’s animal friends help end her frustrations? This picture book alternates between two styles of illustration. The pages that feature all of the animals besides Clarabella are mainly white, except for the animals that are depicted in exaggerated colors. For example, Zoe the zebra has pink and black stripes and Ruby the rabbit is bright red. The other pages are those that feature Clarabella brushing her teeth. The background is a deep purple and there is a border featuring leaves and fruits of the jungle. The only changes made to these images throughout the book are to a clock that indicates the passage of time, the specific teeth Clarabella is brushing, and the increase in Clarabella’s fatigue. The clock will also help children learn to tell analog time. The text, of which there is very little relative to the size of the images, describes what is happening in the pictures. This book will hopefully encourage children to brush their teeth by showing them how much easier it is for them than it is for Clarabella. This book is recommended for preschool aged children and younger. ( )

I darling book that clearly get the point of teeth brushing across. Every child who hears this story will soon realize that the teeth they have to brush is an easy job compared to the mouthful of teeth that the Clarabella the Crocodile has. Pre-schoolers and kindergarten children will enyoy this colorful playful picture book. ( )
