Less than a year after moving to Hawaii, construction foreman Nate Ellison's wife leaves him and their infant son for another man. So lovely. A gentle slow burn with enough external conflict to give my heart a squeeze but no unnecessary angst.

I really enjoyed this story. An is a pediatrician who is very involved in the lives of his sister and niece. Nate has a 6 month old baby who becomes a single dad when his wife takes off and leaves them. He hasn't had much experience with guys, but there is something about An that speaks to him. They become friends and eventually much more.

I loved watching Nate become happy and settled again after his shake up of Olivia leaving. An has been alone for a very long time for a multitude of reasons, but a big one being that his family hasn't accepted him as gay. He works through family drama and the return of Nate's wife in order to find their HEA.

One thing I really loved about the book was the secondary characters. Dai, Neil, Linh, and Freddy were awesome, and I was so glad An and Nate had them in their lives. I even eventually loved Olivia, and I thought her leaving was described very well and sensitively. Another thing that I appreciated was the Vietnamese culture and Hawaiian locations described and infused into the book. I loved the familial conflict and how An stood up for himself.
