This book is a 2020 Caldecott Medal winner, and a tribute to Black Americans in regards to slavery trauma, the civil rights movement, and Black History in general. This was an amazing read, and I think it does an awesome job at highlighting the importance of Black History for people of all ages. I believe it is important that our children are reading books like this to not only learn, but feel validated, inspired, and encouraged on topics of this sort. The illustrations were also very great in my opinion. I would recommend this to any teacher in any classroom! ( )

This is an amazing book. It’s about the African-American experience in America. It touches on subjects such as racism, slavery and the civil rights movement. It also talks about the different individuals who gave their lives fighting for justice. I highly recommend this book for middle grades. ( )

The Undefeated is considered a love letter to black-life in United States that discusses slavery and the civil rights movement. Not only is this book eye opening but also gives factual information that can help the student really understand what life was like during this time period. This book can be used not only in classroom libraries but also in lessons taught for history class and also english due to it containing poetry. ( )

This book is perfect for any subject in school. It is for younger grades about 1st- 4th graders. Perfect for your library no matter what you teach and what your race is. It explains some important figures that everyone should know and get a better understanding of. ( )

The Undefeated, written by Kwame Alexander, is a tribute book to African Americans throughout American history, from the time of being captured and brought to America in ships' holds like cargo, though slavery, the civil rights movement, and recent police shootings, and highlights achievements in sports, literature, music, politics, and other fields. I recommend this book to any middle school student as it highlights the importance of slavery throughout the Civil War and the hardships African Americans had to face. ( )
