I'm not quite sure how to rate this one. It wasn't as successful as the first one for me. I feel like I spent most of this adventure "travelling". I had to constantly flip back and forth to navigate certain areas like the forest, mine, town and island. I was tired of doing that before I really even moved forward with the plot. There's no real way to keep yourself from back tracking unless you make a note of every panel you visit. Then when I did get to panels that moved the plot, I felt like I was missing things. By the time I got to the end of the story, I had no idea how I got there!

Playing as a team (instead of 2 different paths for the bro and sis in the first book) kills the replayability too. There's so much travel I'm not sure I'd want to replay this one anyway. Maybe someday I will when my frustration dies down.

But I still love the idea of these and I think they're great for middle-grade readers. This book also adds the "lose stars" feature, so your actions have more consequences sometimes. I love the art too, so it's hard for me to give this too low of a score. Who knows, maybe I just messed up by one panel and it somehow threw off the whole story for me.

If more of these come out, I'll still buy them! ( )
