Oh this thrift store find was surprisingly adorable. I love the details of each postcard and the setting from which Toot sends it. And of course I love how self-sufficient Puddle is, too. I can't decide which character I empathize with more - the author made them both so appealing!

Reread. ?Oh the pictures are even more lovely & lively and wonderful than I remembered. ?áAnd looking at my review, from only a few?áyears ago, reveals to me something about myself. ?áI now totally empathize with the homebody. ?áHmm.... ( )

This book was a great read. The illustrations were well done and make the characters very vibrant. The pictures even included post cards from Toot to Puddle throughout the course of the story. This book does a good job of showing two different personalities, and making one seem better than the other. For example, when Toot is informing Puddle about his adventures, Puddle looks just as happy in a tub of mud at home. This shows children that it is nice to travel, but it is okay to stay home too. Either way, you can have create your own adventure. This idea is reinforced over and over to show there are many ways to have fun. The main message of the story is that friendship can travel far. ( )

Summary- nice story about two friends. One wants to stay home. The other wants to travel the world. They keep in touch via hand written letters. Eventually the traveler wants to come home and they are happy together.

Personal Response- I love the Toot & Puddle books. The two pigs have such a great friendship. The illustrations are wonderful and add really extend the books story.

Extensions- Children could practice writing personal letters to a friend of their choosing

Summary: A story about two little pigs that viewed a place to have fun very differently. One like to travel and see the world, where Tout liked to stay home and make his own adventures.

Personal Reaction: I agree with Tout, you can have fun no matter where you are, a place is what you make it. Imagination and positive attitudes is all it takes.

Classroom Extension:
1. I would use this book to talk about traveling, and having the students write or tell their own story about an adventure they would take to one of these places.

2. Fun times are as close as your imagination will take you. Do role playing in their own fantasy or story.

This modern fantasy was about two pigs who were the best of friends. One pig liked to be at home and do things at home, while the other liked to travel and see the world. The story described both pig's adventures (at home and around the world). Toot, the friend who liked to travel would send Puddle, the pig at home postcards describing his adventures. In the end the best friends are brought back together at home because they missed one another. ( )
