The reader gets to go along with them on the journey that teaches them that great things are worth all of the hard work. After hours of outdoor labor, and dealing with bunnies that want to eat everything they see, they finally find themselves doing what they set out to do. This teaches young readers the great lesson that trying something new isn't always easy but the reward is going to be worth all the hardships. Overall, this is an entertaining story great for young students. The story relates how a family journeys from growing one small potted fern to raising a large garden. The book features colorful drawings that illustrate the gardening journey. With the story come great tips on how to start a garden, problems that can be encountered, what it takes to have a successful garden, and the lessons to be learned from gardening. Families with kids will enjoy reading this book together and planning their own gardens. Even small children can look at the pictures and tell the story, which makes it a great teaching tool as well as a good story.
