What a fascinating look at many of the mysteries of how/why/did-they of several famous events. Nothing is quite as it appears, in this visioo0n of our past, and the "truth" is addictive reading. Det här är en av LibraryThings förhandsrecensioner. I received this book in exchange for a fair and impartial review.Karen and Trent work for the National Time Standards Agency (NTSA), but they don’t work with clocks. The work with time. In fact, they travel into the past to find out what really happened at specific points in history. (Just a note: I would really love this job!) The story bounces between Karen and Trent’s personal life and their professional adventures. Both stories are equally fun and intriguing to follow. The action and romance fly by so fast, the story is over before you notice. And that is the point of every good story. It always leaves you yearning for more. Det här är en av LibraryThings förhandsrecensioner. The premise of the book intrigued me, “Members of the elite National Time Standard Agency flash back in time to solve some of history's great mysteries.” Sadly the book is too focused on romance and I found some of the sex scenes overly descriptive. Not my taste. This have have been more acceptable if the book was presented as a romantic novel, instead of a SF time travel mystery book. Det här är en av LibraryThings förhandsrecensioner. Set in the future, the National Time Service does more than simply maintain the official time clocks. They also possess technology that allows them to jump back in time to observe (and record) anything from recent murders to what happened with Hitler's body after his alleged suicide in the bunker and what really happened to Lindbergh's baby. The travelers appear to be physically invisible within their pods, but apparently can not only throw things outside of the pods, but can be touched and heard as well, so the missions are carefully planned and executed within a limited time span. This premise alone could fill volumes of interesting stories, as none of the missions covered in this book went quite the way history has recorded. For some inexplicable reason, however, the author spends half the book on pulp romance garbage, with two of the NTS team members getting it on, as well as a brother of one and a friend of another. This part of the book was painfully bad, and I really wanted to just skip it to get back to the missions. It adds nothing to the main plot and dilutes an otherwise intriguing sci-fi novel. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
Members of the elite National Time Standard Agency flash back in time to solve some of history's great mysteries. These mysteries include solving the kidnapping and murder of the Lindbergh baby. What they find is that the kidnapping did not happen the way it is typically portrayed. Members of a flashback team are forbidden from interacting with or changing anything in the past during a flash back. However, when they flash back to stop a serial killer from adding to his list of more than 20 young girls killed in New England they return to the present to find that things are not the same as when they left. The Agency also takes on the challenge of videotaping the cremation of Adolph Hitler to prove that Hitler is actually dead. They find that things are not what they appear to be. Like all love stories, there was a steamy section to satiate literal voyeurs. Throw in universal good looks and a great supporting family and what’s there not to like about the book? Except that it’s fantasy; sometimes we as readers need an escape from life as it is.
This book should appeal to those who love feel-good stories but will be a disappointment to hardcore Sci-Fi readers. I’m one of them. ( )
