In this book, The Spirit of Healing, Dr. Cumes explores non-traditional healing practices from around the world. Originally from South Africa, Cumes received traditional, western-style medical training. As a practicing physician, he compared medical practices of the United States and other westernized societies with the healing traditions of other cultures. He traveled to remote areas of Africa and Peru, seeking out and participating in ancient healing rituals. He entered into these ritualistic experiences as fully as possible, even ingesting the hallucinogenic plants that tribal shamans use to obtain trance states. Cumes observed these shamans as they diagnosed and healed patients. He went to places where healing power was said to reside, and even underwent an unusual healing experience himself. This physician considered the healing practices of ancient religions such as Buddhism and Kabbalah. He suggests that there is wisdom and truth to be found in these traditions that are too often overlooked in our medical system with its reliance upon scientific diagnoses and treatment. This is a book that raises valuable questions about the cultural beliefs surrounding sickness, medicine, and healing in our society. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
Healing. Sooner or later, everyone needs it. You may have a physical ailment that needs to be healed. Or a relationship may fail and your emotions need to be healed. David Cumes, M.D., has spent a lifetime investigating the nature of healing. In The Spirit of Healing, you will join him on his journey of discovery. You learn about the notion of the "wounded healer" as he shares his stories about his medical training. You'll learn about the nature of trance for the healer and the person to be healed within shamanic cultures. You'll even read how he experimented with powerful herbs along with Shamans in the mountains of Peru, all to become a better healer. This personal experience is mixed with training in a variety of fields. He unites his findings with concepts from the East such as kundalini, prana, and the chakras. He also blends this with the Western mysticism of the Kabalistic Tree of Life. And yes, he does discover the keys to healing. These are the interrelationship between the healer, the patient, the location (certain areas do have healing powers) and the universal force or energy (similar to kundalini) he calls the "Field." Cumes picks up on seemingly small ideas that, psychologically, can destroy the healing process. He points out that doctors are now health care providers. He writes, "Synonyms given by a thesaurus for the word 'provider,' include: pimp, panderer, runner, agent, hustler, supplier, purveyor, and procurer. This kind of loose and insulting labeling of physicians goes to the very heart of undermining the essence of healing itself. Most of us need the vital healing energy a compassionate healer can give us to help trigger our Inner Healer." This book can be an incredible guide to understanding the healing process. If you are going through such a process now, the information here could help you heal faster. And if you don't need the secrets revealed here now, you will in the future. Prepare for that future by reading this book. Inga biblioteksbeskrivningar kunde hittas. |
