I really had no idea what this book was about before I started reading. I think I vaguely believed it was a coming of age story. Well, it is most definitely not. I don't want to give away too many surprises by describing the plot in detail, but this is a book that's essentially about parenting and how to deal with all the anxieties that becoming a parent produces. It is also about being that kind of person who never fits and suddenly finding a place for yourself in the world. It is also funny and weird and pretty touching in the end. I enjoyed it quite a lot. ( ![]() This was a bit too weird for me, but I did love the narrators voice as I listened to the audiobook. This was a really fun book while it lasted, but I'm not sure about the ending, and I don't know how much of it I will remember in 3 months. That said, I did have a really enjoyable time during the actual reading. Read for book club. This was the one where the children caught on fire. Too weird for me, and in that style of impossible magical things happening in an otherwise realistic setting. Friendship lasts a lifetime. They can depend on each other when there is no one else to do so. Madison and Lillian attended the same boarding school and were roommates. Due to certain circumstances, Lillian is not able to graduate from the school. Lillian hears from Madison several years later. She has children and asks Lillian to be their governess. Lillian agrees to the situation but has no idea what she getting into. What calamities she will encounter with the children!! I enjoyed this book very much. It will have you laughing and crying during intervals of the book. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
Lillian and Madison were unlikely roommates and yet inseparable friends at their elite boarding school. Then Lillian had to leave the school unexpectedly in the wake of a scandal and they've barely spoken since. Until now, when Lillian gets a letter from Madison pleading for her help. Madison's twin stepkids are moving in with her family and she wants Lillian to be their carer. However, there's a catch- the twins spontaneously combust when they get agitated, flames igniting from their skin in a startling but beautiful way. Lillian is convinced Madison is pulling her leg, but it's the truth. Thinking of her dead-end life at home, Lillian figures she has nothing to lose. Over the course of one humid, demanding summer, Lillian and the twins learn to trust each other-and stay cool-while also staying out of the way of Madison's buttoned-up politician husband. Surprised by her own ingenuity yet unused to the intense feelings of protectiveness she feels for them, Lillian ultimately begins to accept that she needs these strange children as much as they need her. Couldn't this be the start of the amazing life she'd always hoped for? Inga biblioteksbeskrivningar kunde hittas. |
