This was a cute book appropriate for 2nd grade. Kit would rather be playing outside but her two friends, Josh and Alita love spending their summer inside the library reading books. When Kit is dragged in the library against her will, she suddenly discovers a hidden power when she opens a book and transports inside of it. She is a warlock and Faith, the head librarian, also a wizard, takes Kit under her wing to train her in wizardry skills. Villians, dragons and the power of friendship all lead to an amazing summer of adventure! This is only book 1 in a new series that has great potential. I received a complimentary copy from Library Early Reviewers in exchange for a review. ( )

Kit Spencer doesn't like to read but discovers that libraries are not boring (they are weird), and she is a wizard. Faith the Librarian shows Kit and her friends a secret passage to The Stacks and explains the 7 kinds of magic. Kit discovers that Hadrian Salt, the man who wants to buy the library, is not who he pretends to be. How will they save the library? With team work, they come up with a plan that just might work. The Dragon in Library pulls out all the stops: aliens, wizards, fireballs, and of course a dragon. This is a fun book that will encourage reluctant readers that books can be fun! I also liked that other books like Wizard of Earthsea and The War of the Worlds were mentioned.

I won this book through the Early Reviewers Program. This is a fun book that would be good for preteens. A young girl who doesn't like to read goes to the library with some friends and finds out that the librarian is a wizard and that books are magical gateways to other worlds. Then they have to save the library from being shut down by an evil developer. Fun quick read that shows you can have fun in the library. Going to give this to my grandsons to read. ( )

I have mixed feelings about the book, The Dragon in the Library. I really, really wanted to like it, because it sounded like a good idea for my readers who want something like Harry Potter, but just aren't mature enough for the full series, either reading ability-wise, or maturity-wise. This book does fit that description, but I felt like it could have been so much more. The main thing that detracted for me was the lack of development of secondary characters. Kit, the main character in the book, has a family with five kids, but no one is named or developed at all. The other thing that bothered me is that Kit continues to make the same mistake throughout the book, yet never shows any sign of change.

That said, this book will be a very good step from early chapter books to more substantial fare. It moves at a steady clip and will keep readers interested. It is obviously the first book in a planned series, and I hope we seem more growth in Kit, and more development of the characters around her as we go. ( )

This a great story for kids. The main character Kit is in 'late Elementary school', and she and her best friends do everything together. Kit is very much a tomboy. Then in her least favorite place, a library, she discovers something wonderful. She's a wizard. And she can travel through books! Fun and uplifting story. ( )
