WOW, this is such an entertaining medical thriller! It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way. Despite it being 12th in the series, I didn't feel lost listening to it - also my first book by Robin Cook.
Genesis is about using ancestry companies to find a suspect in an "overdose" case. The characters have depth even supporting character (Like Aria. Isn't she something?) ( )

WOW, Genesis is a novel that will linger in the depths of your mind, and I just loved the snapping, pathologist doctor Aria Nicholas is like a dog with a bone as she tries to prove Kera Jacobsen's overdose was murder instead! You need a sense of humor, and understanding that Aria is not someone to tangle with or get in her way! ( )

Genesis of Robin Cook's 37th medical mystery novel. This particular novel delves into the use of commercial ancestry DNA kits to determine the paternity of a fetus in a murdered mother. Yes, it can be done! All those men who kill their girlfriend's because they are pregnant are in for a good shock!

This book was spectacular. While Cook always writes a good book, he hasn't written anything this great in awhile. I thought that perhaps my excitement was due to the thrill at now being scientifically able to catch all those men who kill their girlfriends because they get pregnant. It was much more than that though. Many pages were spent with characters describing the genealogical DNA process in layman's terms. I found that interesting. The author used many more twists and turns to surprise the reader than he has used in recent books. The awkwardness between the two main characters, Jack Stapleton and Laurie Montgomery, was absent. A new, obnoxious, character was introduced to keep the characters fresh. Cook has written a perfect thriller in Genesis! ( )

While Jack and Laurie may be the main leads of this series, it was Dr. Aria Nichols that was a huge important part of this story. In fact, I hardly knew that Jack was really a main lead as he was more of a secondary character in my mind. However, the major player is the DNA genesis that the characters used to track down the killer. DNA tracking is an important part of helping investigators solve cases. You may have even read about cold cases being solved many years later with advances in technology that was not available back when the crime was committed; this includes better DNA analysis.

This is a very engaging story with equally engaging characters. I was drawn into this story. I found myself reading for long periods of time. A fast read for sure. There was a good steady pacing to the storyline but the latter third of the story is where the story did pick up speed to an good ending. Readers of medical suspense stories like Tess Gerritsen will want to pick up a copy of this book. ( )
