In the latest rollicking adventure in the Magic 2.0 series, it's time for the teenagers to show the adults how wizardry really works. Mattie and Brewster are normal, typical 16-year-old twins who live with their normal, boring parents: Martin and Gwen Banks. Normal and boring, that is, until the day their father's best friend shows up at their house - dressed in what appears to be a bathrobe.  The next thing Mattie and Brewster know, their parents are frozen like human statues in their living room, the guy in the bathrobe has vanished, and they need to find answers - fast.    The twins set off on a quest to discover the truth of their parents' lives. Along the way they find secrets, lies, magic, time travel, strange new friends, stranger new enemies, and a really weird dirigible (which, they're told repeatedly, is not a blimp). It is a twisted and bizarre trail that, they hope, will lead them to the man they blame for their parents' peril:  Phillip.… (mer)

This originally appeared at The Irresponsible Reader as part of a Quick Takes Catch-up post, emphasizing pithiness, not thoroughness.

Oh, this was just fun. Gwen and Martin's kids are teens now, and discover the whole magic/computer thing on their own (mostly because Gwen, Martin, and Philip are in major trouble and the teens blame Philip). We get to see some magic that's not in the medieval England or Atlantean model, and see how strange everything in the first 5 books really is through the twins' fresh eyes.

Daniels was his typical great self; Meyers was inventive, clever, and witty (as you expect), and the story was very satisfying.

If this is the end of the road for this series, it was a great way to go. If not? I'm really going to enjoy what comes next. ( )

I've really enjoyed this series, and this was a nice change of perspective, both in introducing Martin & Gwen's kids, as well as learning more about Sid and Gilbert.
One note about the audiobook version - I can't be sure, but I think that the reader switched the voices on the Magni halfway through. I seem to remember that at the beginning of the book Magnus Galka had the rough "lunkhead" type voice, while Magnus Rex had the whinier voice, but at some point they seemed to have flipped. Granted, I could be wrong about that, of course. I've actually enjoyed Luke Daniels' reading of this series, as he's done a great job with distinctive voices. ( )

Even 6 books I'm surprised by how much I laughed out loud while reading the latest in the Magic 2.0 series. Every book in this series has been pure fun. Somehow by introducing a handful of new characters all at once, the series gets new energy while also helping to bridge some of the odd time gaps created. Like all of the others in the series, this is a standalone book, but is best read in order. I only hope Meyer keeps writing these because I love reading them. ( )

This is book 6 of the Magic 2.0 series, and in my opinion, the best book in the series. It is delightfully funny and interesting. It brings in two new characters: Mattie and Brewster, who have been raised in by Gwen and Martin in the normal world completely apart from the "magic" world and characters of the previous books, until the "magic" world intrudes into their lives and the rollicking adventure begins. If you liked any of the previous books you will absolutely enjoy this one. The narration by Luke Daniels is, as always, excellent. The story is well told, with some fun and unexpected turns and events. ( )
