( ![]() A very cute, if improbable and implausible book about what happens when elderly and lonely Julian Jessop opens his heart in a little green notebook. It's initially found by Monica, who decides to find and reach out to the anonymous author of the journal entry, while also penning her own confession and passing the book on. Eventually several people who were previously strangers and quite different from one another, find friendship and even love due to the journal (but not before an amount of conflict and personal growth). I'm giving this a better review than I probably would have due to a) living through a very depressing pandemic and b) having read this for my book club. The premise is too cutesy for me to enjoy as a personal selection, but it really fit the bill for this particular moment in time. Enjoyed this. Good pandemic/staycation/winter beach read. I liked the premise of the book and the community building that too place, but the book seemed to drag by and I didn’t find myself hurrying back to it. The Authencity Project was a surprise hit for me. Author Clare Pooley introduces us to a cast of characters whose lives all being interconnected through the power of authenticity. Each storyline is unique and sometimes a little quirky and I loved the messages of friendship and personal growth throughout. This had the perfect mix of being totally charming but also quite relatable and inspiring and I can't recommend it enough. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
"A story about a solitary green notebook that brings together six strangers and leads to unexpected friendship, and even love--think Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine meets Love, Actually "Everybody lies about their lives. What would happen if you shared the truth?" This is the question that Julian Jessop, an eccentric, seventy-nine-year-old artist, poses within a pale green exercise book that he labels The Authenticity Project, before leaving it behind in Monica's Café. When Monica discovers Julian's abandoned notebook, not only does she add her own story to the book, she is determined to find a way to help Julian feel less lonely. And so it goes with the others who find the green notebook that will soon contain their deepest selves. It will also knit the group together In Real Life at Monica's Cafe, where they'll discover the thrill and sometime-risk of being completely honest--and, for some, find unexpected love. With a cast of characters who are by turns quirky and funny, heartbreakingly sad and painfully true-to-life, The Authenticity Project is a novel readers will take to their hearts and read with unabashed pleasure"-- Inga biblioteksbeskrivningar kunde hittas. |
