Billed as a psychological thriller. It was told from two different perspectives. The first 50% of the book was slow and labored; I almost quit. I had the plot figured out in the first chapter. However, at about the 50% mark the story started to pick up. The denouement was what I expected, but still somewhat satisfying. I wouldn't really call this a psychological thriller because of its transparency. This is the story of a stolen identity. This was a free Kindle of the month read. 272 pages ( )

This book started off good when written in the voice of Brienne, but once it went Naill/Shane it quickly went downhill, really bad. The writing got poor, the story line became ridiculous with characters putting themselves into situations that nobody in their right mind or even crazy would ever do. And each ridiculous situation was topped by the next page. I got this book free on A.Prime and I feel I overpaid. ( )

Fast-paced thriller. I enjoyed the first Brienne part where it seemed most of the mysterious unknowns were being laid out and I was into the concept. However, when it turned to alternating narrators that's where any practicality was lost in what I had read at the beginning. Some of the developments were so out of left field that I thought the typical "this would never happen...why wouldn't they just do this...". I am fine with that every now and then but it seemed the second half of the book had way too much especially with one of the narrators.

This is my first Minka Kent and I have heard good things on her past works. I will definitely check out some of her backlist - this one started as promising but it didn't end up being the type of novel I usually enjoy.

Thank you to Net Galley and Thomas & Mercer for the ARC in exchange for my review. ( )

A psychological thriller that takes you for a ride. After she survives a brutal attack, Brienne doesn't leave her house. Her tenant seems to be her only friend. Out of nowhere, she discovers someone else using her identity. Brienne sets out to find this stranger, but what she finds is more disturbing than just a case of stolen identity. ( )
