Take a journey through the clear skies over a city that's modern and fascinating like few others in America. In spite of its skyscrapers, Chicago is the Green City, an endless lawn bounded by the intense blue of Lake Michigan, interrupted by chaotic urban settings where man has invented surprising architectural and living solutions. The sky is an ideal and perhaps unique point of observation from which one can steal a glimpse of Chicago's secret style and comprehend its essence, so closely intertwined with the cultural identity of the city's inhabitants. It is a creative town, the capital of jazz and the blues, and American black literature, all of which have found intense inspiration in the urban landscapes. Chicago contains the United States of the Irish immigrants, who color its waterways green on St. Patrick's day, and the America of the New Frontier, where time moves fast and appears not to have even scratched the surface of the breathtaking panoramas to be enjoyed from its towers, among the highest in the continent, illuminated by patches of sunlight and sunset mists. The itinerary, illustrated by the spectacular photography of Antonio Attini, starts in the pulsating heart of the city which has been compared to a genuine open air museum of modern architecture. Here, in the area around the Chicago Cultural Center, the first skyscrapers were built, symbols of the twentieth century, and artistic movements and avant-grade styles were born. From the dizzying heights of downtown to the golf courses, over the banks of the Michigan, along its forests, and until the immense green areas that interrupt the geometric succession of metropolitan streets, this journey is both real and imaginary at the same time. With original text and graphic styling that convey the provocative beauty of this city on the forefront of America, through the pages of this book the reader will be able to experience Chicago as if at first hand.… (mer)
