The first reason I like this book is due to the vibrant and detailed illustrations that accompany each poem. The whole book is filled with a traditional Spanish color palate and images of authentic Hispanic people in everyday life. These illustrations help readers understand the Hispanic culture better and compare and contrast their own cultures to the ones they are reading about. I also really love the organization of the book. Each poem has a translated version next to the original. Also, many poems, for example, “Vamos a Cantar” or “Let’s Sing” have the written music at the top of the page. The reader then has the option to simply read the poem, or then apply music to the poem. The main purpose of this book is to celebrate Hispanic culture and heritage. ( ![]() inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
A bilingual collection of songs and rhymes that have accompanying hand and body motions. In this, his second collection of musical material from the Spanish-speaking countries, Jose-Luis Orozco brings together over thirty finger rhymes, play rhymes, and action songs and games for children of various ages to enjoy in Spanish and English.Crafted in a similar format as the appealing, successful De Colores and Other Latin-American Folk Songs for Children, Diez Deditos contains simple music for piano, voice, and guitar; informative background notes placing each song in context; and Spanish and English lyrics presented side by side. As well, words and diagrams show readers the appropriate motions for fingers, hands, face, or body to make. Children will delight in acting out the hand movements to songs like Pimpon Pimpon, about a puppet who can wash his face and hands and comb his hair; or Las Horas, where children move their arms like the hands of a clock; or Que Llueva, where hand gestures are used to imitate rain falling, clouds rising, and birds singing; or a host of others.Joyfully illustrated with Elisa Kleven's colorful collage paintings, the folk-art-like pictures capture the playful, celebratory mood of the selected songs. With its vibrant, detailed artwork and child-pleasing songs, this multicultural book invites readers to learn and share, and sing and act out. It will keep children entertained for years to come. Jose-Luis Orozco selected, arranged, and translated De Colores and Other Latin-American FolkSongs for Children (Dutton). He is a songwriter, a recording artist, and a specialist in multicultural education . Elisa Kleven is the acclaimed illustrator of many books, including De Colores; Abuela and Isla by Arthur Dorros; and her own The Paper Princess (all Dutton).
