Robert Frost is an amazing poet. Reading this collection of poetry about the seasons makes me really feel what Frost is discussing. The section on summer has some really engaging art in particular, and makes me excited for the coming months. Under the poems, there are little blurbs that help the emerging poetry fan understand some of the meaning and context behind Frost's work. This is a great early poetry book. A good read-aloud, especially for someone talented at bringing voices to life. ( )

Genre: Poetry
"Poetry for Young People" is a collection of some of Robert Frost's poems. There are several poems for each of the four seasons- summer, autumn, winter, spring. At the bottom of each page there is a blurb about the poem Frost wrote. I think this book of poems is a valuable one to have in an older elementary or middle school classroom. The poems are advanced enough that young elementary schoolers may not understand them, but simple enough that the slightly older grades can learn from them. The illustrations in the book are very nice and do an excellent job of capturing the feeling each poem holds.
Uses: Any one of these poems could be used as a mentor text for imagery, alliteration, symbolism, or poem structure. It would be a great addition to a unit on poetry.

Review:
This collection of poems brings together the poems of Robert Frost, and organizes them in a linear fashion based on season. Additionally, the editor includes footnotes that help to explain the meanings of the poems in simpler terms.
Critique:
This is an excellent collection of poetry for students because is takes the work of a renowned poet and presents it in a way that makes it more understandable for younger readers. Additionally, the poems tend to address things that have to do with the senses and the way the seasons are interpreted, which would be easier for children to connect with, which is an important part of poetry.
Use:
1. One way to use this collection of poetry would be to select certain poems to put up periodically throughout the year. The teacher could read it out loud or just have in on the whiteboard for kids to see and reflect on in their own time.
2. Another way to utilize this collection of poems would be to have students pick their favorite poem out of the book and then create a drawing or painting based on what they think the poem is saying. That way students do not have to try to fit their interpretations of the poetry into academic language.

When I was in high school, a bust of Robert Frost was the mascot of our College Prep English classes. We read all of his poems. So when I read this collection of his poems, I knew it'd be a good introduction book for my students. A wonderful tribute to Robert Frost's life. The poems are arranged by season and there are watercolor illustrations on each page. At the bottom of each page, there are suggestions on how to read the poems. I found it was helpful for me so I could provide a different style of reading aloud to my students.

This is part of a series "Poetry for Young People." Not wanting these books to get lost on the shelves! ( )

Poetry for Young People: Robert Frost is edited by Gary D. Schmidt and illustrated by Henri Sorensen. It is a book of 29 poems all written by the famous American poet Robert Frost. The book has a great introduction called Robert Frost: A New England Life, that tells the reader about the life of Robert Frost. What I especially like about this book is that it is broken into sections, Poems of Summer, Poems of Autumn, Poems of Winter, Poems of Spring. Each poem is accompanied by an illustration by Henri Sorensen and also an explanation of the poem by the editor, Gary Schmidt.
