I thought it had some great represrntion for jewish characters. I also really like the book store as set. I also really like the competition element that was as really liked the various elements of diversity in this read. My two issues where this book was a super short and sometimes hard to get emotionaly invested in the characters. I also did not feel super invested in the romance of the characters. I really did like the relationship, but it did not scream romance to me! But i would def read read more books by the author in the future. ( ) I thought this was a super cute read. Say no more. This was such a fun read and had quite a bit of depth to it too. Shoshanna was such a likable character. Yes, she was flawed but she knew it and always did everything out of the goodness of her heart. She hurt when others hurt and rejoiced when they rejoiced. So there were a few loose ends that I would have liked to be wrapped up. Near the end, it mentioned that Shoshanna writes and that she basically wrote all night. Umm...I don't recall it being mentioned that she was passionate about writing. And another example is from when she sent a link to a book review she wrote. Where? As a reader, I had no idea that she is also into reviewing as well. These may be slight little things but they did bother me a bit. All that said, I'm glad that I gave this book a chance because it certainly lived up to my expectations. Rating: 4/5 Language: a few forms of a**, d*** Romance: mostly crushing and one non-detailed kiss Spiritual: Shoshanna and Jake are Jewish, some making fun of gentiles and Christians Violence: N/A Note: the main character has two moms, one of the MCs female friends has a girlfriend *I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All thoughts are my own and a positive review was not required. Shoshana loves her job at Once Upon A, a book store in the mall. It's the leadup to the holiday season and the mall is busy. When her boss announces a contest for $250 for the highest number of sales, she knows she has to win to get the money she needs to fix her car. A new employee, Jake, has other plans. Jake and Shoshana clash immediately, even though she can't get over how cute he is and how good he smells. Shoshana is kind of impulsive at times which lands her in hot water with her friends and her moms, but she's working on it and always means well. She grows over the week the story takes place, even when her life feels like it is falling apart for awhile with trouble at work, home, and with her friends. I love the cover and thought a story about a teenager working in a bookshop would be my cup-of-tea. To my surprise, it wasn’t. Rather than being about books and reading, it was about December’s crazy commercial season. I didn’t really enjoy descriptions of crowded shops nor the pressure to make the most sales -- and, as someone who prefers to browse undisturbed, I felt sorry for the store’s customers. Also, I wonder if I’d view Shoshanna differently if I were a teenager -- if her mistakes and the things she learns weren’t so very obvious to me. But it’s not the book’s fault if I’m just not the right audience for it. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
