Dear cats and kittens, this book made me unspeakably happy. ( )

Some of these stories were new to me, but on the whole this was a fairly standard collection of fairytales. They're well told and nicely illustrated, but I wouldn't say this is standout fare. ( )

we have this book because of the illustrations. the stories were good. i think mostly close to their original versions. coincidently i am also reading perrault's tales because they are illustrated by Dore whose wonderful exhibition was at the nag this past summer. some stories were tedious like sinbad or jack the giant killer who really just killed one giant after the other with no story. ( )

I bought this book because I love Arthur Rackham illustrations, but I enjoyed the dark fairy tales too. Monsters die horribly, people get eaten, even Little Red Riding Hood remained in the wolfs belly! I'm recommending this to my 13 year old son. ( )
