Note: I accessed a digital review copy of this book through Edelweiss. ( ) Summary: Gorgeously illustrated black and white picture book. A little girl walking home uses a series of windows as imaginary portals to different worlds. Her internal vision is inspired by the exterior appearance of the windows. Personal reaction: Art is truly stunning. Fascinating, unique images. One to really stare at for a long time. In this picture book, the author depicts the imaginative adventure of a girl peering through the windows of others on her way home. Each page illustrates the young girl's curiosity and wonder as to what may be occurring behind each window she passes. I enjoyed the plot as well as the descriptive pages displayed in the book as it encourages readers to use their own imagination to create informed predictions. Each page was uncovered so that the reader may imagine what is taking place through each window before discovering the events that are actually happening. I would use this in my own classroom to introduce the practice of making predictions as this is a prominent strategy used to support students' future reading comprehension skills. This picture book demonstrated considerable opportunity for the reader to dive into their imagination and make creative assumptions. I do not have any negative feelings towards the story because it is an excellent picture book to introduce to young children as it encourages creative thinking. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
"In this one-of-a-kind, wordless picture book, a child is making her way home from school, imagining what's behind the windows of the houses and other buildings she passes. And that's where the fun begins. Think The Way Home in the Night meets M. C. Escher ... in Wonderland! When the book opens, we see the little girl through a window at school, daydreaming at her desk. Then we follow the girl on her walk home, past houses, shops and other buildings. Along the way, we come to a window--just a window. What's on the other side of it? There's only one way to find out: open the gatefold and see! There are thirteen windows to open, and behind each, a fantastical scene is revealed--an indoor jungle, a whale in a bathtub, vampires playing badminton ... Behind the very last window, we see the child in her own home. Each window contains a clue to what's behind it--e.g. for the "Jungle," a couple plants sit on the window ledge; for the "Bath," the window is round, like a porthole. Each whimsical scene is intricately drawn in black and white and packed with amusing details for readers to explore. A joyous celebration of curiosity and imagination."-- Inga biblioteksbeskrivningar kunde hittas. |
