Jamie's family pretty much owns the town he lives in. It was, after all, founded by his family. So, when he needed a job, he went to work for the family's real estate business, even though what he really wanted to do was be an architect. That's what he went to school for, and he even earned an internship, just to have it stolen away from him by Morgan.
Morgan always saw Jamie as a rival, even though he thought he was super hot. His father had always treated Jamie's family as huge rivals and pushed Morgan to do the same, so when he stole the internship right out of Jamie's hands, it was on the orders of his father. But now, Morgan is homeless. He told his dad he was gay, and he got kicked out. Two years on, he's squatting in an abandoned house on a mountain, hiding from a drug dealer, and trying to figure out how to get himself out of trouble.
I think that this might fall into an enemies to lovers story, but I'm not entirely sure that Jamie and Morgan were quite enemies. But I expect that saying rivals to lovers doesn't have the same kind of punch as enemies to lovers. And, as much as I like Morgan, at the time, he was more like a puppet directed by his father. He just did what his father told him to do. I really do like Morgan. He does what he can to take care of himself even though he was seriously unprepared to do just about anything practical. He really tries though, and I have to admire him a lot for that.
Anyway, great book. I think Jamie and Morgan together are just so sweet, and I can't wait to see who comes next. (
