It started out interesting and held me until about halfway through the book. For some reason introducing Moses and other people who weren't Miriam kind of killed it for me. Maybe because I'd seen Cecil B Demille's The Ten Commandments on tv so many times I felt like it didn't play out with as much drama as t could have. Regardless, I enjoyed the first half. Then it got a bit convoluted. I found myself wanting to skim and ended up not finishing the book as nothing new from Miriam's perspective grabbed me. Plus, there was Zipporah's POV and Moses's POV again. If you want to read a fantastic book by Jill Eileen Smith try Bathsheba or Sarai. Those were fabulous. ( )

An incredible book you will not want to set down. Expect to find a new way to look at the story of Miriam. Biblical fiction at its finest! ( )

Miriam's Song is another captivating Biblical fiction book from talented storyteller, Jill Eileen Smith. Her books are fascinating stories, rich with detail that take readers right into the scenes of Scripture. Readers will love this fictional account of Miriam, the sister who kept watch of Moses' basket hidden in the bulrushes--the young woman who becomes a strong leader as the Israelites are enslaved in Egypt and then led to freedom by her brother. The story follows Miriam and her family as they, along with the rest of God's people are led to the land they were promised so long ago. The characters are strong, multifaceted, and evocative, and watching their relationships develop and evolve is engaging. The historical lessons are blended well with lessons about family struggles and personal struggles as Miriam yearns to hear from God. I look forward to reading more from this author and readers who love Biblical fiction will not want to miss Miriam's Song.

Although not much is said about Miriam’s life in the Bible, Smith did an excellent job in describing how her life and compassion for God may have been. ( )

A story of hope and leadership. Miriam's Song tells the story of Miriam and how she stepped up to lead her family and overcome obstacles. It is a well written book and really gives insight into her life and what she had to do to be the person she was. It really gives you insight into how to live you life with the purpose you are given. ( )
